Homoeopathy
Understanding Homoeopathy
The word ‘Homoeopathy’ is derived from two Greek words:
Homoios – Meaning similar
Pathos – Meaning suffering
Homoeopathy is a natural system of medicine that involves treating diseases with remedies prescribed in minute doses, which are capable of producing symptoms similar to the disease when taken by healthy individuals.
The Principle: Similia Similibus Curantur
The foundation of Homoeopathy is based on the principle of “Similia Similibus Curantur,” which translates to “Likes are cured by likes.”
Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician and the founder of Homoeopathy, discovered this principle. He observed that Cinchona bark, known for treating Malaria, could also produce symptoms similar to Malaria fever when taken by a healthy person. This insight led to the development of Homoeopathy as a holistic approach to healing.
Treating the Person, Not Just the Disease
Homoeopathy views health and illness as conditions that involve the whole person—mind, body, and emotions. Unlike conventional medicine that targets symptoms alone, Homoeopathy treats the man in disease, not the disease in man.
In Homoeopathy, disease is seen as a total disturbance of the organism, affecting both mental and physical states. Therefore, treatments are personalized, addressing all aspects—Mental, Emotional, and Physical—to restore harmony and well-being.
